Yesterday I went to see The Woman in Black, a 2012 horror-thriller film directed by James Watkins and written by Jane Goldman, starring Daniel Radcliff. It is a story based on Susan Hill's novel of the Same Name.

The film had all the typical conventions of a thriller/horror, set in an old abandoned mansion, covered in cobwebs and full of dark corridors leading to strange mysterious rooms. It was a very jumpy film often using the loud screeching of a crow to scare the audience into thinking its the Woman in Black. The film was exactly what I expected it to be, very scary and disturbing especially when showing clips of the children killing themselves. For example in the opening scene it showed three children, girls, playing with their dolls and having a tea party. Then unexpectedly the girls looked up, with a glazed look on their faces. They dropped their toys and began to walk towards the windows, crushing their dolls beneath their feet. Then as they approached the window they stopped, twisted the handle and jumped. It was a very horrific opening scene but was a great way to capture the attention of the audience, as we then wanted to learn the cause of these events.

The music and sound effects, I felt, played a very important part to the film. The loud banging of the rocking chair built up so much tension in the audience, as we were yet to discover what the noise was, coming from a door which would not open. Also the noise of the music boxes and toys in the nursery created such a creepy atmosphere, the innocence of children mixed with the horrors of the house was pretty terrifying. Also the shrill cold voice of the Woman in Black repeating the words 'I will never forgive' was very scary and I found myself literally hiding behind my coat, I'm not great with scary films, I was shocked to discover that it was a 12A!

Over the past few months I've been watching Super Natural, an American television series which debuted on September 13, 2005 and I absolutely love it. I'm currently working my way through the box set. It Stars Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, the series follows the brothers as they hunt demons and other figures of the supernatural. The series is produced by Warner Bros. 


I've noticed that they use lots of creative camera angles and shots which I've found really adds to the drama and excitement of it all. For example at one point Sam and Dean are examining a body in a morgue. At the end of the scene Dean pushes the body back into the freezer, however the camera is in the place of the body so as the door slides back into the freezer the camera goes in with it. The gap between inside the freezer and outside the freezer gets smaller as the door closes until the camera is in complete darkness. I really liked this shot as I thought it was an effective way to transit between the two scenes. It was quite a chilling moment as it puts us, the viewers, in place of the dead body.

Last night I watched a film called Easy A, and Aly Michalka, one of the singers from our music video, happened to star in it. I was really shocked to see her as an actress as i only ever knew her as a singer. I thought it was a really good film, it had a lot of famous people in it including Lisa Kudrow (pheobe from Friends) Amanda Bynes, Emma Stone etc.

Me and Beste recently went to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, the very last Harry Potter film. The film shows Harry, Ron and Hermione's search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord.

This movie is by far the darkest, and the most intense. The second half of the film was particularly emotional as we say goodbye to some brilliant characters who infact were a big part of my childhood. It was however a happy ending with good defeating evil, which was, after 7 films, a relief. One thing I found slightly disappointing however was how little the characters changed when we were shown them 10 years later with their children, especially Hermione who didn't look a day older, in my opinion quite a let down to the end of the film.

Overall I loved how the story and past events from the previous films all pieced together throughout the film, for example we discover that Snape did in fact have a very close relationship with Harry's mother, and we see Snape in a whole new light.

Neville Longbottem finally gets to prove himself as a hero, and stands up to Voldemolt.

At one point in the film Harry dies and we think that Voldemolt has won, however with the help and kind words from Dumbledore he manages to get back and finally defeat the dark lord.

The flames in this shot has connotations of evil, fear and death, showing that Draco's character is shown to be on the dark side, however throughout all the Harry potter films it seems that Draco struggles to know his place, I get the impression he doesn't want to be bad but wants to stick with his family and i also feel that he is a weak character terrified of the dark lord. I really liked the bit in the film where harry goes back to save Draco's life, and for the first time we see the two charactres come together flying around on the same broomstick, I think this was a really nice moment in the film.

Last night I went to the cinema to watch Bridesmaids a 2011 American comedy written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, directed by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow, Barry Mendel, and Clayton Townsend. The plot centers on Annie (Wiig) and her experiences as maid of honor in Lillian's (Maya Rudolph) wedding. I really enjoyed the film, it just goes to show that not all chick flicks are bad, this one definitely had me in stiches. I loved it and have recommended it to all of my friends!

My favourite character in the film was Megan played by the talented Melissa McCarthy. She was hilarious, the film wouldn't have been the same without her silly, tomboyish character.

I also liked the fact that the cast were not well known actors as sometimes when they are famous it takes the realism and comedy away from the film. I thought they were all really talented actresses, everything seemed natural, it wasn't slapstick humour, it was funny because it was real humour, in the sense that we can all relate to it, it just seemed to come naturally as if it wasn't scripted.
